My new Years Star Chart
My last post was about having a “Year of…..(xyz)” instead of New Year Resolutions.
So, I wanted to do a follow up on that and share with you, what I also do for setting up goals for my New Year.
Every year I make myself a Star Chart. It started years ago, when I was forced to listen to an Anthony Robbins CD. (mmm….another story) Anyway…. He talked about creating things in your life, manifesting them. He said that unless you state it you can’t claim it. His idea was to create a Desire Map. (I think he actually has a book about it. Basically it’s dividing a chart into sections Home, Love, Money, Work, and then adding goals and affirmations to each section.) My chart, however, over the years has become more of a “freestyle vision board” that I call my STAR CHART. I’ve added a Star to the centre of my chart. This “STAR” is me, my faith, my “centre” and it reminds me to be true to what is really me, and what is at my core.
Anyway, after listening to Anthony I thought this Desire Map/chart thingy sounded like fun. So I did it. And, it WAS fun! It was like unleashing the child in me, while I cut and pasted pictures, thought about things I wanted, & looked for phrases, mantra’s, & affirmations, that I connected with.
I was so proud of my creation, that I stuck it right in the middle of my fridge! It did start to get comments, and unfortunately some criticism, from visitors and some family, so I moved it into my room. No biggy – I don’t expect other people in my life to be on the same path as me, just as I don’t put expectations on myself to be on the same path as other people.
Anyway, as the year went by, I got to tick off things I achieved or gained, and added new things that inspired me. It became a “living” chart that was never wrong, never too empty and never too full, always perfect, always mine. I found it so refreshing to tick off and acknowledge what I had created and manifested, and seeing something everyday, on my wall, that was a reflection of me and my wants, needs, desires, dreams & wishes.
It was such a wonderful experience that it is now a ‘ritual’ for me to create a new star chart for myself every year.
Here’s how you can make your very own star chart:
- Visit your local friendly newsagent and check out the cardboard sheets. One of those coloured sheets, will continually grab your attention. That’s the one you should buy! That’s the colour for YOU this year!
- Grab some old magazines, junk mail, & printed google images. Flick through them with your favourite green tea, fresh juice or smoothie, and relax. Let you and the images connect. Cut them out, or even tear them if you like. Make those images yours.
- Get your cardboard, and create a ‘centre piece’ to represent your STAR, your faith. This star is my “god” my “universe” my “me”, the creator, and all the other names we like to call our faith. Over the years, I have used heaps of different things, depending on what “mood” I was in, and what I was drawn too. For eg. a sheet of butterfly stickers, tiny cut out stars, confetti, pictures of flowers and hand painted pictures of sunshine. Whatever was exciting me at that point in my life. Get creative!
- Paste your cut out, torn out, collected image’s onto your chart, around your “STAR”. Add written words, draw your own images, paint shapes etc whatever you like. Surround your Star with things that you want in your life. Things that you want to bring into it, things that you want to create, and things to inspire you to live the life that makes you the happiest.
- Put your chart up somewhere where you can see it every day. Office, bedroom, fridge, etc.
- Done… well not really. This chart never really stops being done. You can add to it throughout the year, & you can tick things off. Keep your chart alive, just like you!
Here is a picture of me making a mess creating this year’s star chart. I even cut images off last year’s chart too, that still inspire me.
Here is a picture of my current star chart up on the wall beside our bed. I still want to add some affirmations, and more images, but the important thing is that it is done. It is up. It is helping me see what it is I want to achieve. It’s helping me keep my eye on the ball, and it reminds me of who I am. I love it.
If you are feeling a little lost, or feel like you’re stuck in a Ground-hog-day, then why not have a go at creating your own Star Chart this weekend? Can’t hurt. And…. Just quietly…. I really think you’ll enjoy doing yours, just as much as I enjoy doing mine!
AND…… I think it’s a great way to make it harder for any of your Elephants to stand in your way, especially when you have such a positive reminder of your “faith”, your desires, your dreams and your goals right there in front of you.
Let this Start chart be a shining light for you if you are ever overwhelmed, and in the darkness of a great big elephant in your room.
Here’s to a great year, and for wishes coming true
Lots of Love
Cherlisa xx
