Eating

Hi, welcome all things “Food” and “Eating” related.

I wish there were better words to use.. because… those two words often conjure up strong negative emotions in us.

What do YOU think of when I say, Eating?  Dieting? Cooking? Groceries? Food?

mmmm…. food for thought (excuse the pun hehehe)

It is not uncommon for us to feel tense, or get defensive, refuse to discuss it, or comment that we “hate” the idea of dieting, meal prepping, or grocery shopping.  These emotions are either creating our negative mindsets and behaviours, or they are the result of long term emotional issues.  Either way, we  need to address these “elephants” so that we can move towards having a healthy relationship with food and eating.

What is the elephant in your room when you think of food?  What emotions do you have and why?  Say hello to those emotions, and hug them, because they just might be the key to unlocking the best you ever.

Where my food fascination began

My experiences with food and dieting over the past 30 years has been huge. It started in my early 20’s and is still going today as I head into my early 50’s.

In my early 20″s I competed in Cycling and Triathlon events, and being young and competitive, I wanted to maximise my training. I researched and experimented with every training method/theory I could find – *High Carb * Carb loading * Zone Diet.. you name it – I tried it. I became a Level 1 Coach for both Cycling and Triathlons , and was constantly testing and assessing different training approaches and performances on all of my athletes.

In my 30’s, I moved away from cycling and triathlons (thanks to kids) and my  “choice of sport” became Bodybuilding& Figure Shaping.

Nine competitions, and a few Qld and Australian titles later, I can honestly say, the difference between looking like a “freak on stage” and an everyday fit person, is what goes in your mouth. In those last few weeks before a competition, the training remains the same, however it’s the food choices that make the biggest difference.  This fascinated me so much, and every time I competed, I’d try something different and “observe” how my body changed.

What happened next, regarding food, was what sealed the deal for me. Our eldest son (10yrs old at the time) was diagnosed with Aspergers and ADD. The changes we saw in his behaviour when the Dietician put us on the Elimination Diet was nothing short of “miracle making”.  Only 2 weeks into the elimination diet, he was able to hold conversations with us, plan ahead and control his feelings of frustration.  Truly amazing. This WAS the pivotal moment.  Having experienced first hand, how food can transform the body in both the cardiovascular fitness sport of triathlons, and the physical shaping sport of Bodybuilding –  and then to see how it can transform behaviour, blew me away.

Fast forward 15yrs, and I have had yet another profound experience with the powerful changes food can bring. I was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Breast Cancer. It was in this journey that I learnt the healing benefits of food, and the now have an even deeper knowledge of which of the clean foods bring the most healing benefits, and how to incorporate them into a diet for not only fitness, shaping and behaviour, but for healing also.

FOOD really is so powerful. I have seen it and I have experienced.

Spreading this message is passionate to me.  My wish is for everyone on this planet to respect food and diet, and allow it to enhance our true powers, so we can live a fully life.

My Food Dream

I have three young boys and a husband.  My husband and I want the best for our children, as I am sure you do with yours. We want to set good examples and educate them on food. No-one else will. Unfortunately it is not covered in schools very well, and it shouldn’t have to be. Home is where they do most of their eating, so it should be our responsibility as parents, to nurture them emotionally and physically, and that includes nurturing them with clean healthy food.

Getting kids to eat healthy can be tough! well…. it is for me, but, its my mission, my dream.  I will share with you our ups, downs, tantrums and wins. Nothing and no-one, is perfect, but if your willing to learn, then, that in itself is perfect.

I hope that if you follow this site it will inspire you to make great food choices for you and your family.

I’m Cherlisa (Cheryl)

Welcome to my “Living Room” where I talk about all things “Life”.

And most importantly, talk about all those “Elephant in the Room” topics. Because….those pesky little Elephants can influence the way we live our lives, so if we stop ignoring them and start embracing them (eg Say ‘Hello’ to them!) we can lessen their heaviness, change both our mental and physical health, and live this life as fully as we can. Sounds great to me! So please, take a spot on my couch and join in, while I say “Hi” to all my uncomfortable topics, share my insights, and hopefully inspire you to do the same.
