My Emergency “No-Ripe-Pears-in-the-House” Backup Breakfast

My Warm Chocolate Breakfast Pudding for the No-Ripe-Pears-in-the-House morning devastation.

If you have been following my Facebook page, you will have noticed that one of the few things that I enjoy about Winter, is that Pears are in Season!

Pears ROCK!  Pears are, in my mind, the most under-rated fruit EVER!

Did you know…… that Pears are considered one of the few hypoallergenic fruits, which means they are great for sufferers of food allergies and for young babies.  When my eldest son was on an Elimination diet, Pears were the only fruit that he could eat, that did not change his behaviour.  We even used Pureed Pears as sauce for his meat and vegies.

And…Pears have a very high content of Pectin. Pectin is our friend. It is a soluble fibre and it functions as a great bulk laxative in the gut. Additionally, this gritty-little fibre friend of ours, binds to cancer-causing toxins and chemicals in the colon, protecting the mucous membrane from contact with these nasties.  This is why they also believe Pears can be useful in treating colitis, chronic gallbladder disorders, arthritis and gout. Such a treasure!

AND…. They are one of the lowest Calorie fruits!!  Hello! Bonus!

AND…. They were the sacred fruit of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty!  HELLO! If it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for me!! hehehehe!

Anyway, who got me started on Pears?!  I could go on about them for ever.

So, this morning there were NO  ripe pears for my breakfast. Yes, I was sad, actually a little devasted. However, I do have an emergency Backup Breakfast which is a VERY close second to my preferred pear breakfast.

Here it is.

Let’s call it the Warm Chocolate Breakfast Pudding, because, honestly that’s just what it tastes like!

30g Traditional Oats

40g of Traditional Oats

blueberries and oats

Small handful of blueberries (I use frozen, because its my emergency breakfast, and I need there to be supplies on hand at all times – but obviously fresh is best)

Add enough water to JUST cover oats and berries.

2mins microwave

Pop it into the microwave for 2 minutes (‘Now’ would be a great time to pack your lunch for the day & boil the jug for your cuppa green tea)

scoop WPI and dash of milk

Once finished in the microwave, add 1 scoop of Chocolate WPI (whey) protein powder. (I have tried it with my rice protein powder but it goes too gluggy).

Then a VERY small dash of milk.

Stir it up.

Sprinkle on some almonds, and enjoy your high protein, lean breakfast.

Easy and Yummy. No excuses. Happy Days.

Welcome to my “Living Room” where I talk about all things “Life”.

And most importantly, talk about all those “Elephant in the Room” topics. Because….those pesky little Elephants can influence the way we live our lives, so if we stop ignoring them and start embracing them (eg Say ‘Hello’ to them!) we can lessen their heaviness, change both our mental and physical health, and live this life as fully as we can. Sounds great to me! So please, take a spot on my couch and join in, while I say “Hi” to all my uncomfortable topics, share my insights, and hopefully inspire you to do the same.
